INDIANAPOLIS – Butler and Purdue went into the eighth inning knotted up at 3-3, but a two-run bottom of the eighth would lead the Boilermakers to victory.
Robbie McCargar and
James Gargano led Butler at the plate. The duo combined for five hits and two RBI.
McCargar was responsible for each Butler RBI at Purdue. He doubled to right center in his first at-bat and would tie the game at 1-1 with a sac fly in the third.
The Bulldog designated hitter also gave BU a 3-2 lead in the fifth with an RBI single through the left side of the infield to score Gargano.
Purdue runs came around in the first, third and fifth. The difference was in the eighth when the Boilers scored two runs off just one hit.
The result landed with
Alex Voss, marking his first loss of the season (2-1). Trent Johnson (1-2) earned the win and Bo Hofstra came in for his fourth save of the year.
BU will return to action on Thursday with a game at Xavier. Game one of the series will be played on BEDN at 3 PM.
