Creighton Takes Friday Doubleheader from @ButlerSoftball

Creighton pulled out a pair of close wins over Butler in a BIG EAST doubleheader played Friday in Omaha. The host Bluejays took the first game, 3-0, before winning the back half of the twinbill by a score of 4-3.

Creighton won the second game with a two-out, walk-off infield single to push across the winning run for a 4-3 win.

Sammy Andersen tied the contest with a two-run double to left center in the fourth inning after Creighton took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The Bluejays re-took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a single run.

The score remained 3-2 in favor of Creighton until the top of the seventh when senior Jenna Foreman doubled down the left field line to score pinch-runner Payton Longest.

With runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs elected to intentionally walk the next Bluejay to load the bases. The strategy worked as Butler starter Karli Ricketts induced a groundout to force the lead runner at home. However, Sam Alm was the next batter and her single to shortstop – her third hit of the game – scored the winning run.

Laura Roecker earned the complete-game win for the Bluejays to improve to 8-8 on the season. Ricketts took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned). Her five strikeouts helped to overcome nine CU hits and five walks.

In Friday's opener, Creighton starter Kiele Miller was able to keep the Bulldogs at bay as the Bluejays won, 3-0. Miller struck out 10 while allowing only three Butler hits and two walks in the shutout.

Butler starter Alyssa Graves pitched well in a losing effort. She struck out 10 and needed only 83 pitches to get through her six innings of work.

Creighton scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on two Butler errors. The Bluejays were hitless until the bottom of the sixth when their first two hits of the contest produced two insurance runs.

After the pair of results, Butler falls to 14-27 (2-8 BIG EAST). Creighton is now 17-18 (5-9 BIG EAST).

The teams are scheduled for an 11 a.m. (Central) first pitch in Saturday's series finale.
