Butler dropped both ends of a doubleheader Saturday at Seton Hall as the teams met in BIG EAST action. Seton Hall took a 12-2 decision in five innings in the opener before pulling out a 2-1, eight-inning win in the second game.
After the pair of results, Butler is now 12-22 on the season and 1-4 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall improves to 16-15 (4-2 BIG EAST).
In the first game, Seton Hall set the tone with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. A third-inning
Maddie Moore groundout and a
Christina Candotti solo home run in the fifth inning accounted for Butler's two runs.
Jenna Foreman,
Lauren Fey and
Bri Avery each accounted for two of Butler's eight hits in the contest.
Seton Hall utilized 10 hits and seven walks to manufacture its 10 runs. Madison Strunk picked up the win, scattering Butler's eight hits over 4.0 innings.
The second game of the twinbill was much closer. The teams traded runs in the fifth inning before Seton Hall ended the game in the bottom of the eighth.
Butler's
Payton Longest doubled to lead off the Bulldogs fifth. After being sacrificed to third, she would later score on a passed ball. Seton Hall leveled the score on a Janae Barracato RBI single in the bottom of the frame.
The deciding run came on a Baylee Allender home run to left field, leading off the bottom of the eighth.
Alyssa Graves took the loss, allowing both runs in seven-plus innings of work in the circle. She struck out eight Pirates.
Reganne Camp got the win for Seton Hall, going 7.2 innings and allowing only four hits and an unearned run.
The two teams are set to finish off the three-game series with a single game Sunday. First pitch is set for noon.
