INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler baseball team took a tough 5-4 setback to St. John's on Sunday afternoon. The two evenly matched clubs ended game two of a Saturday doubleheader tied up at 4-4 and were forced to play extra innings the following day after running out of daylight at Bulldog Park.

Butler held a Red Storm baserunner at third in the top of the 10th inning, but a costly two-out throwing error in the 11th would take us to the 5-4 final. St. John's hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield where
Nathan Dill made a nice stop to his right side.
Ryan Schmit left the mound to cover the bag, but the throw was off leading to the game-winning run.

Schmit was charged with the loss (0-1) and the win went to Joe Kelly (2-0).

Butler took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single from
Connor Christman. The two teams would then exchange runs in the third. McGeehan scored on a wild pitch for the Red Storm and
Kollyn All drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 2-1.

Bartles would tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth by scoring on yet another wild pitch. The Bulldogs recovered and looked to be in the driver's seat in the seventh after scoring two runs.
James Gargano singled through the left side to score
Zach Jarosz and
Connor Dall would come up with an RBI single to left that allowed Gargano to come around and score.

Butler's two-run cushion vanished in the top of the ninth with the Johnnies tying the game at 4-4. Mascarella doubled to deep right centerfield and Bossard would knot the score with a single back up the middle of the diamond. The umpires called the game after nine full innings and St. John's would take the weekend series roughly 30 minutes into day two.
