NEW YORK – Butler outside hitter
Anna Logan made the 2019 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team after an announcement from the conference office on Thursday morning. Logan missed the entire 2018 season due to injury, but head coach
Sharon Clark will be pleased to have the two-time First Team All-BIG EAST selection back in the rotation for 2019.
Logan is one of four outside hitters in the BIG EAST to earn the honor. She is joined by Preseason Player of the Year Allie Barber (Marq), Hope Werch (Marq) and Efronsini Alexakou (STJ).
The 2019 Preseason Coaches' Poll also dropped today. The Bulldogs were picked to finish fifth in the conference standing after acquiring 48 points.
The preseason favorite in 2019 is Marquette. The Golden Eagles received eight first-place votes to tally 80 total points. The final two first-place votes landed with Creighton, the 2018 champions who went undefeated in conference action (18-0) a year ago.
St. John's jumped to third in the preseason poll after finishing there in 2018 with a 12-6 finish against conference foes. Following the Red Storm would be Villanova with 55 points in the poll.
The Bulldogs would hold off the Hoyas for the fifth spot. Georgetown earned 40 points for sixth and DePaul would edge Seton Hall for seventh. Rounding out the poll would be the Xavier Musketeers in ninth (23) and the Providence Friars in 10th (14).
Logan will attempt to help the Bulldogs return to the top of the conference standings in 2019 for her final season at Butler. She was limited to 21 matches in 2017 due to injury and would sit-out all of 2018 to get healthy for 2019.
In 2017, Logan was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and was also named All-East Region honorable mention. She ended the year with 253 kills, 271 digs, 50 blocks and 21 service aces. Her stats in 2016 were even more impressive. The Indianapolis native led the conference and ranked ninth in the nation with 578 kills. It was the second-highest kill total recorded in Butler volleyball history.
Logan and the Bulldogs will take the court for the first time on Wednesday, Aug. 21 with an exhibition match at Cincinnati.
The start of the 2019 season will feature Butler playing in the War Eagle Invitational from Aug. 30-31. The Auburn Tigers will host BU, New Mexico State, and Tennessee State over opening weekend.
