Taylor Tops @ButlerUFootball 17-14

INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor Trojans recorded a 17-14 win at the Sellick Bowl on Monday night to record their first win of the 2019 season. Butler scored a TD with 7:53 left in the fourth quarter to get back within three points, but Taylor would run out the clock with a five yard gain on third and three to ice the win.

How It Happened
Taylor marched down the field on their opening drive and scored a touchdown on a five-yard run from Spencer Crisp. It marked the only points of the quarter, giving the Trojans an early 7-0 advantage.

The game would move to 14-0 in favor of the visitors once Zac Saltzaber found Trey Burdine in the end zone from eight yards out. Butler would counter before the half with seven points as Kavon Samuels crossed the goal line with 39 seconds left. That TD run was setup by a 15-yard pass from Sam Brown to Brad Huth.

The only points of the third quarter belonged to Taylor as the Trojans added three points with a 22-yard field goal. Butler would once again use a long pass play to set up a rushing TD in the fourth. Sam Brown re-entered the game after being examined on the sideline and hit Stephen Dennis for a gain of 35. Dennis was marked down at the 1-yard line and Nick Orlando would take care of the rest with a one-yard TD run to move the game to 17-14.

The Butler defense would hold and get a big stop with 6:06 left in the fourth, but the offense gave it back with 4:20 to play. Saltzgaber converted a third and one play with a nine-yard rush and after three BU timeouts it was Drew LeFever with rush up the middle for five on third and three that sealed the Taylor win.

Key Moment
Taylor took a 17-7 lead at Butler after a 17-play 91-yard drive that took 9:30 off the game clock. The 22-yard field goal ended up being the difference in the outcome.
