INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler football team will return to action this weekend with a road game at Princeton. The 5 PM kick-off will stream live on ESPN+.

SCOUTING PRINCETON: The Tigers will host Butler in their 2019 season opener on Saturday night. Head Coach Bob Surace named Graham Adomitis, John Orr and Jake Strain team captains for the upcoming season. Adomitis was a first-team All-Ivy League selection at tight end a year ago on Princeton's unbeaten Ivy League championship team. Orr and Strain are talented upperclassmen on the Tiger defense. That unit ranked fourth in the FCS last year in total defense.
Princeton has won three Ivy League titles over the last six years. They went 10-0 last year, but lost three starters to the NFL and offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson to the coaching staff at Oklahoma State.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Princeton won the first meeting last year to take a 1-0 lead in the all-time series.
LAST YEAR VS. PRINCETON: The Tigers scored 17 points in the first quarter and poured on 27 more in the second to record a 50-7 win at the Sellick Bowl last year. Rushing yards told the story with Princeton accumulating 326 yards on the ground compared to just 66 from BU.
Brad Sznajder was responsible for 63 of the 66 rushing yards. He broke a 48-yard run vs. Princeton, marking the longest play from scrimmage for Butler.
Princeton recorded three sacks and eight tackles for loss vs. BU last year. They also forced, and recovered two fumbles.
SAMUELS SCORES FIRST TD: Sophomore running back
Kavon Samuels scored the first touchdown of his collegiate career against Taylor. He was responsible for the first TD of the game for BU, crossing the goal line from one-yard out.
Samuels rushed the ball five times for 10 yards vs. the Trojans. He has 38 total rushing yards this season.
ORLANDO ADDS TD RUN: Backup quarterback
Nick Orlando found the end zone on his only carry of the Taylor game. His one-yard TD run came after a 35-yard pass play from
Sam Brown to
Stephen Dennis.
Orlando scored his first rushing TD at Butler on his sixth career carry.
BRUNNER LEADS DEFENSE: Mason Brunner made a season-high 12 tackles in the setback to Taylor. He ranks 41st in the FCS in total tackles.
Brunner matched his season-high tackle total from 2018. He made 12 tackles vs. Morehead State and Davidson last year.
DINGMAN SHINES IN SETBACK: Drew Dingman punted the ball five times for BU vs. Taylor and averaged 46.6 yards per punt.
Dingman had two punts travel over 50 yards and had two punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
SEVEN SCORES: Seven different players are responsible for Butler's seven touchdowns this season.
Dan DelGrosso scored the first TD of the season vs. NDSU on a fumble recovery.
Nate Rusk and
Brad Huth each caught a TD pass vs. Indiana Wesleyan while
Brad Sznajder and
Stephen Dennis appeared in the box score with a rushing TD's. BU most recently got rushing TD's from
Kavon Samuels and
Nick Orlando.
Sam Brown has two passing touchdowns this season.
SPREAD THE WEALTH: QB
Sam Brown has completed a pass to a pass to 11 different receivers this season.
Stephen Dennis and Brad Huth are the top two targets on the team. Dennis leads BU with 11 receptions. Huth is close behind with 10.
NEW EXPERIENCE: Butler has never played at Princeton or in the state of New Jersey. Their last road trip to an Ivy League campus came in 2012 when they played at Dartmouth.
UP NEXT: Butler will open PFL action at Stetson on Saturday, Oct. 5. The team's bye week lands on Sept. 28.
Butler won their PFL opener in 2018 with a 24-21 victory at home over Morehead State.
