@ButlerVB Falls in Five to Cleveland State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Butler opened the 2019 Hampton Inn Bowling Green Invitational with a 3-2 loss to Cleveland State. The outcome marks the second-straight loss to an opponent in five sets (23-25, 25-7, 23-25, 25-16, 15-10).

How It Happened
Cleveland State posted a 25-16 win over BU in set four to push the match to a full five sets. Eight attack errors really hurt the Bulldogs in the finale, allowing the Vikings to come out on top. Brooke Gregory and Anna Logan were the top offensive performers for BU. Logan led the Bulldogs with 15 kills and Gregory was in the box score with 10. The defense was led by Logan and Elizabeth LaBue. Each student-athlete recorded 19 digs.

On the other side of the net, Trinniti Hall led Cleveland State with a match-high 19 kills. She hit .400 collecting those 19 kills in 40 swings with just three errors. Hanna Greene and Christina Grecol also impacted the match. Greene went for 16 kills and a team-high seven blocks. Grecol registered a double-double with 54 assists and 14 digs. Two Vikings recorded 20+ digs to help CSU come out on top.

Key Moment
Cleveland State erased an early deficit by winning set two 25-7. Butler battled back to go up 2-1 with a 25-23 win in the third, but 15 attack errors over the final two sets would be too much to overcome.

Inside the Box Score
Cleveland State ended the match with 15 total team blocks compared to just 4.5 for Butler. The 'Dawgs hit over .200 as a team in each of their wins in sets one and three. They were well below the .200 mark in the three losses.
