@Butler_CCTF Break Records, Sweep 5,000 Meters Friday

The Bulldogs got off to an impressive start this weekend as they competed in the first day of the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, KY, and the Gene Edmonds Memorial Invite in West Lafayette, Ind.

In West Lafayette multiple school records fell on the first day of competition.

In the pentathlon, Karmen Koch broke her own school record with a score of 3,475 and finished third overall.  While breaking the record, Koch also set new personal bests in the shot put (12.16m), long jump (5.08m), and 800-meters (2:27.64)

Niki Ezeh also had a score that would have beaten Koch's previous record mark with a score of 3,424, good for fourth overall at the meet.

Lily Hess set a new school record with her finish of 7.77 in the 60-meter dash preliminary. This bests the previous record of 7.80 held by teammate Carson Fields.

Through the first day of the heptathlon, Luke Hofrichter sits in ninth with 2,400 points.  On Friday he set personal bests in both the 60-meter dash (7.35) and long jump (6.54m). The heptathlon will continue Saturday morning with the 60-meter hurdles at 9:30 a.m.

Fields also set a new personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.36 in the preliminary.

In Kentucky, Emily Royston continued the impressive start to her Butler career with a win in the women's 5,000-meters.  Her time of 16:35.31 is a personal best and was a full 45 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

On the men's side of the 5,000-meters, Butler swept the top two spots with Clark Otte (14:41.82) and Jackson Martin (14:50.18) each setting new personal bests.

Both meets will conclude tomorrow, with the field events at the Jim Green Invitational beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by the track events getting started at noon. Barry Keane and Simon Bedard are Bulldogs to watch as they run the mile at 1:10 p.m.

In West Lafayette, field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the track events at 12:15 p.m.
