INDIANAPOLIS – Butler and Dayton are charter members of the Pioneer Football League that have met on the gridiron 45 times. Separated by just 120 miles, these PFL foes have squared off against each other each season since 1993. Their best winning percentage vs. the Flyers came under Jeff Voris from 2009-13, with BU winning four of those five matchups.
 
Butler vs. Dayton Football Timeline
- The Bulldogs have 12 total wins over the Flyers. Their first win came all the way back in 1925, 10-7. Butler's last win over Dayton was in 2013 by the final score of 33-30. Jon Treloar hit a game-winning 33-yard field goal with just 3:29 left in the contest.

- Tight End Mike Chrobot caught 13 passes for 120 yards against Dayton in 1978. He ended the season with a team-best 55 catches for 628 yards and five touchdowns. The 6-3 senior from South Bend Ind. was recognized as an All-MCC First Team selection.

- Wide Receiver Paul Page ended the Dayton game with 10 catches for 176 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 1986. He was the best offensive weapon on the team that season going for 62 catches, covering 998 yards and seven touchdowns.

- John Jenkins hit five field goals against Dayton on Sept. 26, 1987 to lift the Bulldogs to a 15-10 victory and set a new school record.

- Butler outscored Dayton 31-7 in the second half during the 1988 matchup to post a 34-17 win over the Flyers. Chuck Orban led the defensive effort with eight tackles, one sack and three fumble recoveries. Steve Roberts was unstoppable on the ground with 173 rushing yards on 44 carries.

 - Todd Roehling placed his name in the Butler Football record book in 1990 by catching 12 passes for 223 yards against Dayton. Defensively, Chuck Orban led the 'Dawgs with 21 tackles against the Flyers.

- Arnold Mickens led Butler to a 31-24 victory over Dayton in 1994. The junior took 54 hand-offs to rack up 203 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Toby Jacobs also added two, one-yard TD runs in the fourth quarter to help BU come out on top.

- Freshman linebacker Buck Ulery scooped up a Dayton fumble in the Butler end zone and raced to the BU 14-yard line before being stopped in 2004. The 86-yard fumble return was the longest in team history, eclipsing the previous record of 63 yards set by Marty Erschen against San Diego in 1994.

- Nick Orlando scored 30 points at Dayton in 2019 by rushing for five touchdowns. He ended the game with 158 yards on just 16 carries. Only Steve Roberts has scored more points in a single game. He posted 36 points vs. St. Ambrose in 1989.

- Butler and Dayton have shared PFL titles two times. In 1994, each team ended the year with 4-1 conference records. In 2009, the two teams shared the championship with 7-1 records against conference foes.
