EVANSVILLE – Butler dropped an 8-3 decision at Evansville on Friday afternoon to move to 6-1 on the year.
Connor Schultz was hit with the loss as the Purple Aces collected 16 total hits compared to just four from BU.
Schultz threw 5.2 innings, striking out six. He surrendered five earned runs off 12 hits in his third start of the season.
Alex Voss and
Cory Bosecker also touched the rubber for BU on Friday. Voss got the final out of the sixth and returned for the seventh. The eighth featured two strikeouts from Bosecker.
Butler faced a 3-0 deficit after two innings.
James Gargano got the 'Dawgs on the board with an RBI single to right that scored
Brody McGrath. Evansville struck again with solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
BU pushed across an unearned run in the sixth to move the game to 5-2, but Evansville matched that run in the bottom of the sixth and scored another in the seventh.
McGrath ended the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He supplied the final run of the day for Butler in the eighth with an RBI single to center that sent
Kollyn All around to the dish.
Evansville's Nathan Croner kept Bulldogs off the bases and secured his first win on the mound. He struck out 10 batters over six full frames and only walked two.
Butler will look to even the series tomorrow at Bosse Field. The two clubs will come together at noon.
