The Bulldogs posted a 2-0 day at the Liberty Softball Classic Saturday, taking wins over Yale and East Carolina as Butler moves to 11-4 on the season.
In Saturday's opener, Butler took a 4-0 decision over Yale.
Sophomore
Karli Ricketts got the Bulldogs on the board first with her sixth home run of the season. Her blast to center field in the first inning gave Butler a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold until the third when a
Maddie Moore RBI single and
Mackenzie Griman RBI groundout gave Butler a 3-0 advantage. The Bulldogs would push across an insurance run in the fourth for the final margin.
Griman posted the shutout in the circle for the Bulldogs to improve to 2-0 on the young season. She struck out four, while allowing only three hits and two walks over her seven innings of work.
Butler continued its winning ways later in the day Saturday with a 7-2 triumph over East Carolina.
Alyssa Graves improved to 5-1 on the season behind her complete-game win. She struck out 11 while allowing just the two earned runs.
Moore got the Bulldogs out in front with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. It was the first of four runs the Bulldogs would push across in the frame. A
Madi Christiansen sacrifice fly and Christina Candiotti RBI double also contributed to the early lead. Â
ECU cut into the lead with runs in the first and third innings before Butler broke things open in the top of the seventh. Moore tripled in
Lauren Fey before scoring on Griman's sacrifice bunt. Freshman
Loren Simpson capped the scoring with an RBI double to left field to score Griman.
Moore and Griman each had two of Butler's seven hits in the game.
With the pair of results Saturday, Butler improves to 11-4 on the young season.
Butler will conclude play in Lynchburg Sunday with a 10 a.m. first pitch with Fairfield.
