Butler continued its hot start to the season with a 4-1 win over Fairfield Sunday morning, concluding the Bulldogs' action at the Liberty Softball Classic in Lynchburg, Va.
After a 4-1 weekend in Lynchburg, the Bulldogs are 12-4 on the season.
Senior
Elyse Babb provided the big hit for the Bulldogs with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. That erased a 1-0 Fairfield lead that the Stags took in the top of the frame. For Babb, it was her first home run of the season and the second of her Butler career.
The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when
Christina Candotti earned a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 4-1.
Madison Seigworth got the win for the Bulldogs, improving to 2-0 on the season. She pitched the first four innings and allowed a single run. She struck out three.
Karli Ricketts came on in relief, picking up her first save of the season by going the final three innings. She struck out seven while allowing only one hit and a single walk.
Lauren Fey,
Maddie Moore, and Ricketts each had two hits for the Bulldogs, who totaled eight on the day.
Lauryn Rhinehart took the loss for Fairfield.
The Bulldogs return to action beginning Friday with the first of five games in an event hosted by the University of Memphis.
