Three home runs led the Bulldogs to a 7-1 win over Western Carolina Friday morning in Butler's opening contest of an event held at the University of Memphis.
The big swing of the day belonged to senior
Christina Candotti, who took an 0-2 pitch and deposited it over the left field wall in the top of the fourth. Her second home run of the season gave the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore
Lauren Fey got into the act in the top of the sixth inning, belting the first home run of her Butler career over the right field fence. The two-run shot gave Butler a 6-0 lead.
Freshman
Mackenzie Griman hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh for the final margin. It was her second homer of 2020.
Alyssa Graves got the start and allowed just one hit over three innings. She struck out six. Griman took over in the fourth inning and went the rest of the way. She allowed a solo home run, but scattered five hits and two walks in her four innings in the circle. She picked up the win.
Fey went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and stolen base to go along with her long ball. Griman and Candotti each had two of the Bulldogs' 12 hits.
Butler is now 13-4 on the season.Â
