Butler closed its weekend at the University of Memphis Tournament by splitting a pair of Sunday contests.
The Bulldogs are now 14-7 on the season.
Butler ended the weekend on a high note with a 9-3 win over Youngstown State.
Karli Ricketts and
Loren Simpson both hit home runs for the Bulldogs, who pounded out eight hits. An eight-run second inning put the Bulldogs in control.
Alyssa Graves got the win for the Bulldogs, striking out 10 while surrendering three runs on three hits.
In the first game Sunday, Belmont took a 6-3 win over Butler.
Butler was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning on an
Alyssa Garcia sacrifice bunt. The tie was short-lived as Belmont built a 4-1 lead in the fifth. The Bulldogs clawed back once again with a two-run single by
Mackenzie Griman in the bottom of the fifth. That brought the deficit to 4-3, but the Bulldogs would get no closer in the 6-3 decision.
Griman and
Elyse Babb each had two of the team's seven hits.
Ricketts went the distance and struck out seven for the Bulldogs. She took the loss despite only allowing six hits, but five of those were extra-base hits.
Brooklin Lee got the win for Belmont. She ended the game by navigating out of a bases-loaded, one out scenario that the Bulldogs had put in place in the bottom of the seventh.
The Bulldogs now head to Madeira Beach, Fla., for seven games beginning Wednesday morning. Butler will play Toledo and South Dakota State Wednesday before a short break from action until Friday.
