Catching Up with @ButlerUFootball Alum Pace Temple

INDIANAPOLIS – Pace Temple had an outstanding football career at Butler from 2015-18. The two-time First Team All-PFL selection became the first Butler wide receiver to top 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. He also set two single-season school records during his senior campaign with 85 receptions and 1,097 yards. The all-time receiving leader at BU is now playing professional football in the Italian Football League. He recently took some time to share his football story.

Player: Pace Temple
Position: Wide Receiver / Punt Returner
Team: Rhinos Milano
League: IFL (Italian Football League)

How many teams have you played for since leaving Butler?

Just one. I was invited to the Chicago Bears rookie mini-camp, then signed a deal with Rhinos Milano. I continued to train and work out after my camp experience in order to stay ready for any opportunities that could pop up. I started talking to the Rhinos and a handful of other teams, but felt best about this fit at this time.

Tell us about the IFL. How many games are in a season, how many Americans are on the team, any unique rules?

We play 10 games in the IFL and I have three American teammates. There is a limit to the amount of imported players that can be on each roster. Other than that, the rules are the same.

How would you describe your role on this team?

Right now, I am playing as our outside X wide receiver, slot receiver, punt returner, and will be helping out on defense as a cornerback from time to time.

Describe your favorite football moment as a professional.

In Italy, it was the first time I walked out to practice in our home stadium (Velodromo Vigorelli). At that moment, I was able to take it all in and see the surrounding city outside of the historic stadium. Before that, it would have to be getting an opportunity to put on a bears jersey and helmet. I was able to walk onto the field that I grew up dreaming about playing on.

Where do you live now, and what cities have you been able to visit?

I live in Milan and was able to travel around the city for about a week or two before COVID-19 spread through the country and now we are not able to leave.

Do you speak any Italian or are you trying to learn on the fly?

I am trying to learn more Italian each day.

Let's run through some of your favorite things, starting with favorite food.

My favorite food is chicken parmesan.

Favorite football moments as a kid?

Just watching NFL greats. I would watch highlight tapes of my favorite players and then go out to play backyard football and attempt every move I just watched.

Favorite NFL team?

Chicago Bears

Favorite NFL Players?

I have a lot of favorite players, but would have to include Larry Fitzgerald, Julian Edelman, Michael Thomas, Ed Reed, and Devin Hester.

Favorite moment at rookie mini-camp?

On the first night of camp, the Bears have a bunch of former NFL greats come to Halas Hall and you get to have dinner with them. Growing up as a kid, watching guys like Matt Forte and Charles Tillman every single week, and then getting an opportunity like that was pretty special.

Who is the best player you faced, including mini-camp?

Probably Jamal Agnew, a cornerback that played college ball at San Diego and now plays for the Detroit Lions.

Ok. Back to the favorites… What are some of your favorite moments at Butler?

I have a lot. My first touchdown catch comes to mind. It was a fade against Franklin in the Sellick Bowl. Our 2017 homecoming win over Campbell, breaking the receiving and receptions record with a PR against Jacksonville and Davidson, and playing in my final game at Butler on Senior Day vs. Stetson. Oh, and I also recently re-watched the entire Youngstown State game and that has to be on this list.

How about your favorite route to run once you break the huddle?

There are three that come to mind. Comeback, post-corner and the fade.

What was your favorite play at Butler?

X choice.

What do you miss about Butler?

I miss camp, I miss my teammates and coaches, and I miss Hinkle Fieldhouse.
