INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler volleyball team fell to DePaul (25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20) Friday morning in Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs (14-14, 8-7 BIG EAST) fell a game back of the Blue Demons (16-11, 9-6) in the conference standings with the loss.

Set 1: DePaul 25-22
After the Blue Demons jumped out to early an early 7-2 lead, the Bulldogs climbed back to tie it at 12-12 following a couple of Megan Sheridan kills. A later 4-0 Butler run including two kills by Brittany Robinson gave the Bulldogs a 19-17 advantage, but DePaul responded with a 4-1 streak to take back the lead. Back-to-back Sheridan kills would put Butler back up 22-21, but the Blue Demons took the final four points and clinched the set with an ace from Rachel Krasowski. Sheridan led the Bulldog offense with six kills (.667 hitting percentage) in the opening frame.

Set 2: DePaul 25-22
The Blue Demons jumped out to another early lead (8-3), but the Bulldogs again rallied back to tie it at 12. However, DePaul responded with a 6-1 run for a comfortable 18-13 advantage. Butler would get within two at 19-17 and 24-22, but Donna Brown clinched the set for the Blue Demons with a kill. Robinson led the Bulldogs with three kills, while Jaymeson Kinley added six digs and two assists in the second frame.

Set 3: Butler 25-22
Destiny Cherry had a kill to help the Bulldogs get an early 4-0 lead. A later 3-0 DePaul run gave the Blue Demons an 8-7 advantage, but a 7-2 Butler streak, which included kills from four different Bulldogs, gave them a 14-10 lead, and they would lead the rest of the set. DePaul made runs to get within one on six separate occasions, but Melody Davidson put down a kill to clinch the set for Butler. Sheridan had four kills, while Davidson had four blocks in the third period to pace the Bulldogs.

Set 4: DePaul 25-20
DePaul used a 6-1 early run to take a 10-6 lead. Later 4-0 and 6-0 runs extended the advantage to 23-14 before the Bulldogs had a 6-1 run to climb back to down 24-20. Emma Price would then clinch the set and match for the Blue Demons with a kill. Davidson led Butler with four kills in the final frame.
