The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 70-59 win over Troy Saturday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Chuck Harris and
Jair Bolden combined for 44 points.
Â
Twenty-eight of the duo's 44 points came in the second half as Butler turned a tied game at halftime into a win.
Â
"That was a fun one," said Butler coach LaVall Jordan. "This group continues to fight through challenges and we knew this would be one tonight. Troy is a fast, aggressive, physical team with some old guys. We had to figure it out and we did in the second half."
Â
Butler was able to overcome 21 turnovers, including 12 in the first 12 minutes. At that point in the contest, Butler trailed 17-7. The Bulldogs continued to trim the lead and
Bryce Nze's 80-foot heave at the end of the first half found the bottom of the net, sending the teams into the locker rooms tied at 23-23.
Â
A Harris three-pointer with 6:44 left to play capped a 9-0 run and gave the Bulldogs a 55-44 lead. At that point, Butler had hit 12 of 16 their attempts from the field in the second half.
Â
Harris had 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including four three-pointers. Bolden had 21 points, making seven of nine of his attempts. Four of those were from three-point range.
Â
Butler went 12-of-25 from behind the arc, one night after going 10-of-22 against Central Arkansas.
Â
Jayden Taylor added 10 points for the Bulldogs, his third consecutive game in double figures to start his Butler career.
Â
The Bulldogs shot 53 percent from the field and had a 35-21 advantage on the boards.
Â
Efe Odigie led Troy with 13 points; Duke Deen added 10.
Â
Up next for the Bulldogs is a Wednesday match-up with Michigan State. The game at Hinkle Fieldhouse is part of the annual Gavitt Tipoff Games. A limited number of tickets remain for the contest, which will air on FS1.
