The Bulldogs closed out a weekend of season-opening games at the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic with a 3-1 loss to South Dakota State Sunday morning.
The result puts Butler at 1-4 to start the season.
Butler got on the board first in the bottom of the first when a
Karli Ricketts' single scored
Lauren Fey.
South Dakota State would tie the game with a single run in the top of the third before plating two runs in the top of the sixth for the final margin.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Griman got the start for Butler, allowing a single run in four innings of work. She struck out two.
Madison Seigworth came on in relief and surrendered the two sixth-inning runs.
Alyssa Graves closed out the game with two innings of scoreless work.
Five Bulldogs each had a single hit in the contest.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend with five games scheduled in Mobile, Ala., at an event hosted by South Alabama.
