@ButlerSoftball Posts Two Wins to Open Jaguar Classic

The Bulldogs posted a pair of wins Friday to open the Jaguar Classic hosted by South Alabama in Mobile.

Butler opened the tournament by shutting out Murray State by a score of 4-0. The Bulldogs followed that with a 4-3 decision over Lipscomb.

Butler is now 3-4 on the young season.

Senior Alyssa Graves starred in the circle for the Bulldogs in the opener, posting a complete-game shutout by striking out eight. She allowed only four hits and two walks in her seven innings of work. The result levels her season record at 1-1.

Butler got all the offense they would need with a two-run fifth inning. A Murray State throwing error plated Lauren Fey, after Fey and Maddie Moore had completed a double steal. Madi Christiansen followed with a single to left field, scoring Moore.

Karli Ricketts provided two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double.

Fey reached base in all four of her plate appearances with a single and three walks.

In the second game of the day, Butler posted a 4-3 win over Lipscomb. The Bulldogs never trailed in the contest, stringing together single runs in four separate innings.

Ricketts got the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. She allowed three runs in her complete-game seven innings, but was able to scatter nine hits and two walks by striking out eight Bison.

Fey went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to go along with a run, an RBI and a walk. Zoe Herdman and Loren Simpson each had two of Butler's seven hits.

Play for the Bulldogs resumes on Saturday with another pair of games. Butler and Lipscomb meet again at 1 p.m. (Central), followed by a 6 p.m. (Central) scheduled first pitch against the host Jaguars.
