Butler dropped a pair of narrow defeats Saturday in the second day of the Jaguar Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala.
Following the results on Saturday, the Bulldogs are 3-6 at this juncture of the season.
In Butler's first game of the day, the Bulldogs fell to Lipscomb, 7-6. Later in the day, Butler dropped a 7-5 decision to host South Alabama.
Butler attempted to erase a 7-2 deficit in the seventh inning against Lipscomb. The Bulldogs were able to push across four runs, but were unable to plate the tying run, which was on second base with one out.
Butler had defeated Lipscomb in a game on Friday.
In the Saturday match-up, Lipscomb was helped by three runs in the first inning and another three in the fourth.
Butler's six runs came on only three hits, but the Bulldogs were able to draw nine walks, including four by
Lauren Fey.
Madison Seigworth took the loss (0-2), allowing four runs over the first three innings.
Mackenzie Griman came on in relief, taking care of the final three innings in the circle.
The Bulldogs once again made a late comeback in the second game of the day against the host Jaguars. Down 7-3 in the final inning, the Bulldogs pushed two runs across, but were unable to come all the way back, falling 7-5.
That seventh-inning rally included a two-run home run from
Karli Ricketts. It was her second long ball of the season. Two of Butler's earlier runs came on freshman
Monique Hoosen's first collegiate home run in the fourth inning.
Butler had eight hits in the contest, once again paced by Fey who went 3-for-4.
Alyssa Graves got the start for Butler, going three innings before giving way to Ricketts. Ricketts took the loss.
The Bulldogs conclude play in Alabama Sunday with a 10 a.m. (Central) first pitch against Murray State. Live stats will be available.
