Five Bulldogs recorded goals Wednesday morning as the Butler women's soccer team defeated Marian in dominant fashion, bringing down the Knights 9-2 to notch their second win of the season.
Â
How It Happened:
Â
Anja Savich, a Preseason ALL-BIG EAST selection, tied the Butler record for most goals in a single game, notching four against Marian. The last Bulldog to score four goals in a game was Amy Morrison in 2003. The record-setting performance was also Savich's first career hat trick.Â
Â
Alli Leonard opened the scoring for the Bulldogs in the second minute off the assist from
Amanda Kowalski. Savich took over from there and scored the Bulldogs' next four goals to make the score 5-0 with 25 minutes left to play in the first half.Â
Â
Gretchen Skoglund added two more for the Dawgs to help bolster the lead right before the half. But the Bulldogs were not done yet,
Justina Gaynor tallied the first score of the second half for Butler just six minutes in.
Aliya Diagne would round out the scoring for the Bulldogs poking in her first of the season in the 76th minute.
Â
Marian got on the board with a pair of goals in the 71st minute and the 78th minute, respectively. The Knights are the first team to score multiple goals on the Bulldogs since Xavier did on 10/31/19.
