RECAP: BUTLER VS. MARIAN
The Bulldogs took down the Knights handily, winning 9-2 on Wednesday. Butler took the lead within the first two minutes of the game after a goal from Leonard. Then, a quick four-goal outburst by Savich, which included a PK, gave Butler a comfortable lead. By the half, it was 7-0 Bulldogs, and both teams would get two goals in the second half. The Butler defense was strong once again, only allowing four shots on goal.
SCOUTING THE DAYTON FLYERS
The Flyers are also 2-0 on the season, with wins over Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky. On Feb. 6, Dayton handled Bellarmine, 2-0. Then, on Feb. 17, the Flyers completed a comeback win with two late goals to beat Northern Kentucky, 2-1. Offensively, Dayton has been spread evenly to start the season. The Flyers have no true goals leader, several players have recorded one goal.
Dayton boosts a young roster in 2021. In their match up with Northern Kentucky, the Flyers starting line-up was comprised of 10 underclassmen - five freshmen and five sophomores.
HISTORY VS THE FLYERS
Butler and Dayton last faced off on Aug. 30, 2018, with BU coming away with the win, 1-0. That win had moved the Bulldogs to 4-0, and dropped Dayton to 3-2. The only goal came from a deflection off of a Dayton defender on a free kick by then freshman,
Katie Soderstrom.
Dayton leads the series history, 5-3-1. The series dates back to 1991, when Dayton won the first meeting, 4-2 in Indianapolis.
