Billikens Beat @ButlerVB in Saint Louis 3-0

ST. LOUIS – The Billikens swept the Bulldogs Tuesday night at Chaifetz Pavilion 17-25, 23-25, and 23-25. BU came up with seven more kills than their opponent, but nine aces from St. Louis would help the home team come out on top.

How It Happened
St. Louis broke a 4-4 tie in the first set with a 4-1 scoring run that was fueled by two aces from Sara Daniels. Butler got back within one point at 11-10, but the Billikens once again used a run to expand their lead. At 15-10, BU would burn a timeout and score out of the stoppage. The momentum didn't stay with Butler however as St. Louis rattled off the following three points. The 18-11 deficit proved to be too much and Butler would take a loss in the opener 25-17.

Set two went back and forth in the early stages of the action, but a 7-1 Billiken run would give St. Louis a 20-14 lead. Attack errors riddled the 'Dawgs during that stretch, but the Bulldogs would get it right and comeback to make the score 21-20. The critical stage of the second came with Jaymeson Kinley serving for the 'Dawgs. Her ace made the score 24-23, but an error would follow the ace giving St. Louis a 2-0 lead.

Butler came out strong in the third looking to avoid the sweep and quickly would double up their opponent 8-4. The first tie came at 15-15 and the Billikens would get on a roll to snag a 21-17 advantage. Elana Brueggemann's kill got BU back within one at 23-22 and the set would be tied soon after on a St. Louis attack error. Butler lost the serve off a kill from Jillian Mattingly and it would be Mattingly once again to end the match with a kill from Cordia Kennedy to give STL the 3-0 win.
