Indianapolis – The Bluejays proved to be too much for the Bulldogs on Friday winning in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-16). Creighton hit .367 as a team to take the match.
How It Happened
The first set was controlled by Creighton throughout. The Bluejays broke a 4-4 tie with a six-point run and forced a Butler timeout. The rest of the match would be much of the same, as the Bulldogs were not able to string together more than a couple points in a row. The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the match after winning the set 25-16.
To start the second set, Butler kept it close. It was a four-point run from the Bluejays to make it 8-4 that would set them apart from the Bulldogs. Butler had closed the gap to just one point and forced a Creighton timeout at 13-12, but Creighton responded after the timeout and expanded their lead again. The Bluejays took the second set 25-17.
After taking the lead at 3-2, Creighton never let up. A three-point run to make it 7-3 would give Creighton enough of a gap to hold Butler off for the entire set. The Bluejays eventually took the third set 25-16 and swept the match. In the third set, Creighton had a remarkable .500 attack percentage.
