INDIANAPOLIS – After a hard-fought match, the Bulldogs fell to the Bluejays in three sets again Saturday afternoon. Butler is now 1-5 in BIG EAST play and 4-8 overall.
How It Happened
In an intense first set, there were a lot of big plays at the net that would be the determining factor. Early on, Creighton used the Butler block well and were able to give themselves a five-point cushion. A little later in the set, Butler's aggressive play at the net got them a few points and were able to cut the lead to three multiple times. However, the Bluejays ended the set on a six-point run to win 25-16.
A back-and-forth second set would see eight ties, four lead changes, and a lot of big moments from each side. The last tie came at 10-10 and shortly after that, Creighton went on a four-point run to give them a 17-12 lead. That gap was just enough for the visitors to hold off any pushes made by Butler. The Bluejays took a 2-0 lead in the match after winning the set 25-21.
Creighton jumped out early in the third set, they were ahead 4-0 before you knew it. A couple of pushes from Butler got them back into the game, getting it to within two at 8-6. After that, the Bluejays had multiple three-point runs to stretch their lead once again. Butler would get a four-point run of their own, but it was just a little too late. Creighton took the third set 25-20 and swept the match.
