CINCINNATI – The Butler volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match at Xavier on Friday night (16-25, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25). BU will end the regular season tomorrow night with another match against the Musketeers at the Cintas Center.
How It Happened
Xavier grabbed an 8-1 lead in the first set and never looked back to take a quick 1-0 lead with the 25-16 victory, but the Bulldogs battled back to win set two 25-19. Robinson posted five kills in the second set to lead the attack. The 'Dawgs opened up the action with a 6-1 advantage and would never trail.
Set three went to the home team 25-18. Xavier hit .318 to come up with the 2-1 lead. That result would not discourage BU as the Bulldogs fought to the very end in the fourth. The two evenly matched teams came together at 22-22 after a kill from
Elana Brueggemann. Kelly Franxman would put Xavier up by one with a kill, but
Melody Davidson would match that effort to knot the score at 23-23. Down the stretch, Franxman would strike again for match point and Xavier would win on a kill from Mary Ann O'Toole.
