For the second consecutive match, the Bulldogs played to a 0-0 double overtime draw. On Saturday, it was against Xavier at the Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis.
With the result following 110 minutes of play, Butler is now 1-0-2 in BIG EAST play and 1-4-2 overall. Xavier now stands at 0-2-1 in conference action (3-4-1 overall).
Gabriel Gjergji posted his third straight shutout, pushing his scoreless streak to 365 minutes. He made three saves.
Xavier's Matthew Rosenberg posted a single save in his 110 minutes of clean sheet work.
Xavier held a narrow 13-12 advantage in shots.
Hemi Nasser had a team-high three shots for Butler.
The two best scoring opportunities of the contest belonged to the visiting Musketeers. In the 73
rd minute, Justus Kauppinen took a bouncing pass and his shot caught the right post straight on.
It was also Kauppinen whose half-volley narrowly missed the right side of the goal four minutes into overtime. Those two chances were his only two shots of the match.
In the BIG EAST's modified spring schedule, the teams will play again later in the season in Cincinnati as all of the Midwest teams in the conference will play home-and-home series.
The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday with a road match at Creighton.
