INDIANAPOLIS – The first road trip of the 2021 Spring Football Season will send the Bulldogs to San Diego this Saturday when Butler takes the gridiron vs. the Toreros at 4 PM. The contest will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2018. San Diego leads the all-time series 19-5.

Butler Football
- Butler scored a touchdown on their opening drive of the 2021 season (10 plays, 75 yards - 4:18).
- BU also scored on their first possession of the second half (10 plays, 60 yards - 5:44).
- Butler averaged 4.3 yards per rush in Week 1.
- Valpo and Butler each averaged 4.9 yards per play in the opener.

Kavon Samuels rushed for a career-high 117 yards in the season opener vs. Valpo.

SCOUTING SAN DIEGO: The Toreros won at Drake on Saturday by the final score of 13-10. SD trailed 7-6 at the half, but would get a 1-yard TD run from Mason Randall in the third to take the lead. Drake's final drive of the game was derailed by two San Diego sacks. Chris Reese and Kevin Glajchen got after the quarterback on back-to-back plays giving the Bulldogs a 3rd down and 28 look from their own 8 yard line. They went for it on fourth down and were denied which sealed the Toreros victory.

Kevin Glajchen had three sacks vs. Drake accounting for half of the team total. The senior defensive tackle led the team with eight tackles (4 TFL).

LAST GAME VS. SAN DIEGO: Butler hosted San Diego on Oct. 20, 2018. The Toreros outscored the Bulldogs 35-0 in the first half and would move forward to win 42-13. There were exactly 1,000 yards of total offense in the contest.

Will Marty threw for 317 yards and two TD's in that game. Both Pace Temple and Stephen Dennis would score and end the day with over 100 receiving yards.

LAST WIN VS. SAN DIEGO: Butler's last win against San Diego came at home in 2009. The 'Dawgs edged the Toreros 25-24.

LAST GAME: Butler lost the turnover battle (-2) against Valparaiso which led to the 10-point loss in the season opener. The 'Dawgs fumbled late in the second quarter which led to the go-ahead Valpo TD to end the first half. The 'Dawgs were then picked off in the fourth quarter after the Valpo 20-yard passing TD with 9:11 to play.

Valpo returned the first half fumble 35 yards to the Bulldog 30-yard line. They would score with no time left on the game clock to take their first lead of the game.

BALANCED ATTACK: Butler recorded 17 first downs in the season opener, passing for nine and rushing for eight.

Butler QB Sam Brown attempted 26 passes and handed the ball off 32 times.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: Butler started a true freshman at DT on Saturday and had nine other freshmen appear on the two-deep depth chart.
Savon Smith played well for BU on the defensive line with four tackles.

Freshman WR Yogi Flager led Butler with 46 receiving yards in his Bulldog debut. Flager caught a 26-yard pass in the first quarter to help move the chains. His 20-yard reception in the fourth quarter came on 3rd and 15.
