Butler will travel to Milwaukee to face conference rival Marquette on Saturday. The game will kick off at Valley Field at 5Â p.m. (Eastern; 4Â p.m. Central/Milwaukee).
A live stream of the match will be available on GoMarquette.com.
Butler heads into the match with a record of 2-5-2, while Marquette sits at 7-1-1. The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 21 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll.
Marquette currently leads the Midwest division of the BIG EAST standings at 4-1-1. Creighton is second at 4-2, followed by the Bulldogs at 2-1-2. DePaul (2-4) and Xavier (0-4-1) round out the standings.
This will be the 13th meeting between the Bulldogs and Golden Eagles, with Marquette holding a narrow lead (6-5-1) in the all-time series.
BIG EAST play during the 2021 spring includes a home-and-home series with the four other Midwest division schools: DePaul, Xavier, Marquette, and Creighton.
In the first matchup between the two teams March 10 in Indianapolis, the Bulldogs and Golden Eagles played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw. Butler dominated the game on the offensive end, outshooting the Golden Eagles, 21-8. Wilmer Cabrera Jr. and Jack Haywood led the Bulldogs with five shots apiece. Hemi Nasser added four.
Butler's Gabriel Gjergji and Marquette's Chandler Hallwood each posted a clean sheet, with Hallwood making seven saves, while Gjergji turned away four of Marquette's attempts.
In Butler's most recent contest, a golden goal in the 93rd minute from Hemi Nasser lifted the Bulldogs to a 1-0 win over DePaul in Chicago, Ill. on Saturday afternoon. Ultimately, the Bulldogs only needed three overtime minutes for Tommy Visser to send a cross from the left wing that allowed Nasser to head in the game-winner.
The golden goal from Nasser was his first goal since scoring in Butler's season-opener on Feb. 5 against SIUE. Nasser and Visser are tied for second on the Bulldogs in scoring at six points apiece, just off the pace of Cabrera Jr. and his eight points.
Gjergji earned his fourth shutout of the year with the decision over DePaul.
Butler was predicted to win the BIG EAST Midwest Division, which was voted on by the league's head coaches earlier this year. The Bulldogs had two players named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in sophomore Cabrera Jr. and senior defender Rhys Myers. Â
Cabrera Jr. was the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2019, after scoring eight goals and starting in every game. Haywood was All-BIG EAST third-team in 2019 after tying for conference high in assists.
Following Saturday's match, Butler will have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, April 3, when they travel to Cincinnati to take on Xavier.
