UConn topped Butler in a Saturday doubleheader in Storrs, Conn., in the opening day of a schedule three-game series between the two teams.
The Huskies took a 6-1 decision in the opener, followed by a 4-2 result in the nightcap.
Butler is now 9-13 on the season and 2-6 in BIG EAST play. UConn improves to 12-10 (4-1 BIG EAST).
In the first game, a four-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Jana Sanden, gave UConn an early lead they would not relinquish.
Butler's run in the top of the seventh came on a solo home run by
Karli Ricketts, her sixth of the season. It was one of only two hits the Bulldogs would get against UConn starter Payton Kinney.
Ricketts struck out 10 Huskies, but took the loss, allowing six runs in 5.2 innings of work.
In the second game, Kinney and Meghan O'Neil split time in the circle during the second game, limiting Butler to two runs on seven hits. Two of those hits belonged to
Mackenzie Griman, including a solo home run. It was her second long ball of the season.
Alyssa Graves went five innings, allowing only two earned runs in the loss.
With rain in the forecast Sunday, the teams have agreed to move the game up to a 10 a.m. first pitch. UConn will provide a live stream of the contest.
