The Bulldogs dropped the series finale to UConn Sunday morning in Storrs, Conn., in a game that was ended after five innings due to rain. The Huskies were leading 1-0 when the game was halted.
In the top of the six inning, Butler was able to put runners on second and third with no outs. Two Bulldog strikeouts followed. At that point, the umpires called for a rain delay, which eventually led to the game being called. The game reverted back to the last completed inning, which was the fifth.
Payton Kinney picked up the win for UConn, surrendering one hit and four walks to the Bulldogs.
Mackenzie Griman pitched well in the circle for the Bulldogs, allowing the lone UConn run and only two hits. She struck out six while walking one in her five innings of work.
UConn's run came in the third inning on a Jana Sanden sacrifice fly.
Butler will return to action Tuesday, hosting Indiana State in a non-conference match-up. The Bulldogs are also slated to welcome St. John's to town next weekend for a three-game conference series.
