INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs picked up their first conference win of the season on Friday night with a 3-2 upset over visiting #24 Marquette (25-19, 15-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-7). BU posted 21 total blocks, just two shy of tying the school record.
How it Happened
Butler used a 6-0 scoring run in the first set to take a 1-0 lead.
Funmi Oladapo broke a 15-15 tie with an ace and the 'Dawgs would use her serve to gain a 21-15 advantage. The scoring spree was the difference in the action and BU would come out on top 25-19.
Set two was just the opposite with the Golden Eagles using a 5-0 run to double BU up at 12-6. They owned five-point lead near the midway point and would quickly knot the score at 1-1 with a 25-15 win.
Set three was wild with Butler owning a 6-1 lead early in part to
Marisa Guisti's serve. Marquette came back to tie the game at 6-6 and action would stay tight to 16-15. The visitor's would take a 2-1 lead by outscoring Butler 9-2 for the 25-17 win.
Butler played great with their backs against the wall in set four. They went ahead 3-0 and never trailed in the set to send it to a fifth. Robinson was huge down the stretch and attack error by Taylor Wolf would end the action at 25-18.
The momentum from the fourth set would spill into the fifth for BU. The Bulldogs led 4-1 early and would score six-straight off a
Hannah Kelly serve to win the match 3-2.
Stat of the Match
Melody Davidson dominated action at the net with 14 blocks and 10 kills. She helped Butler post 21 total team blocks.
