INDIANAPOLIS – The Golden Eagles bounced back to sweep Butler on Saturday (25-17, 25-22, 25-12) less than 24 hours after the Bulldogs shocked the BIG EAST Conference with a five-set win. Marquette hit .287 as a team to record the win.
How It Happened
Taylor Wolf and Hannah Vanden Berg combined to record 28 kills in the contest to lead Marquette to victory. Wolf added 14 assists, eight digs and a serve ace to her stat line in the win. Marquette was led by Claire Mosher in the assist column and Katie Schoessow defensively with 20 digs.
Marquette doubled Butler up in the first set at 12-6. BU never got closer than five down the stretch and the visitors would lead 1-0 after claiming the 25-17 win. Wolf was impressive early with seven of her 15 kills coming in the opener. Butler's top performer over the first frame was Guisti with four kills and two digs.
Set two was the best of the three as the two teams came even at 16-16. They were separated by just one point at 22-21, but Marquette would get a lift from Vanden Berg to go up 2-0 in the match. Robinson came alive for BU in the second with four kills. That effort matched Guisti who also notched four kills.
The third and final set was never in question as Marquette jumped on Butler with a 12-2 advantage. The action would end with the Golden Eagles claiming a 25-12 victory. Vanden Berg had five kills in the finale while Butler only managed three kills as a team.
