INDIANAPOLIS – The Drake Bulldogs evened their overall record on Saturday (2-2) with a 33-7 victory over Butler at the Sellick Bowl. 23 second quarter points proved to be the difference in this outcome as the two teams battled under wet conditions.
The first fifteen minutes came and went without any points, but Drake would enter Ian Corwin into the game to start the second quarter and take control of the action. Corwin connected on seven of his eight pass attempts for 75 yards and added three touchdowns, all of which came before the half. He also rushed the ball six times for 67 yards.
Corwin was the true difference maker in the end. His first TD pass covered 32 yards and went to Colin Howard. The second was a six yard throw to Caden Meis and the third came with just 18 seconds left in the half to Brandon Langdok.
Butler broke up the shutout late in the fourth quarter with
Bret Bushka finding
Luka Popovic for six. Bushka found Popovic open in the left side of the end zone from 38 yards out.
Connor Reid and
Tommy Carlsen tied for the team lead with 11 tackles each. Reid also had an interception for the Bulldogs, his first of the season.
Butler will return to action next Saturday with a game at Morehead State. The rematch against the Eagles will start at 4 PM.
