Senior Maddie Moore served up the heroics Tuesday afternoon, as her walk-off double gave the Bulldogs a 5-4 win over visiting Ball State.

Ball State center fielder Katie Janiga dove for Moore's sinking liner, but couldn't corral it as Mallory McMahon and Lauren Fey crossed home plate. Moore was Butler's last hope when she stepped to the plate with two outs and runners on second and third with the Bulldogs trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Butler is now 14-15 on the season, while Ball State falls to 17-10.

The Bulldogs held a 3-1 lead as the teams went to the fifth inning. The visiting Cardinals were able to push across three runs in the top of the fifth. Those runs came on a suicide squeeze, RBI triple and a wild pitch. Karli Ricketts would give way to Alyssa Graves in the Butler circle midway through the inning.

Ball State's 4-3 lead would stay until the final frame.

Graves picked up the win in relief (5-4), allowing two Ball State runs in the fifth as part of her 2.2 innings of work. Ricketts got the start and pitched the first 4.1 innings, surrendering two runs. She struck out five, pushing her over 100 strikeouts on the season.

The Bulldogs maximized their six hits in the contest.

Alyssa Rothwell took the loss for Ball State, as two of the three runs she gave up were on Moore's game-winning hit. She pitched the final 3.2 innings for the Cardinals in relief of starter Darcie Huber.

The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday, hosting Dayton for a non-conference match-up. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
