A strong outing from senior pitcher
Alyssa Graves gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 win over the visiting Dayton Flyers Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis.
With the result, Butler improves to 15-15; the Bulldogs have won six of their last seven contests. Dayton falls to 11-21.
Maddie Moore, who had the walk-off hit in yesterday's 5-4 win over Ball State, kept her bat hot in the first inning Wednesday. Her two-out double to the base of the left-center fence scored
Karli Ricketts to put the Bulldogs on the board first. That would be the only run of the game and the only run that Graves would need.
The left-hander was able to scatter seven Dayton hits and two hit batters by striking out five and not allowing a walk. She didn't have a 1-2-3 inning until the sixth, but did her best work with Flyers on base, consistently getting out of jams. She needed 98 pitches over her seven innings.
Graves improves to 6-4 on the season. It's her third shutout of 2021 as her ERA lowers to 2.36.
Addy Bullis took the loss for Dayton. She allowed the single run in 4.2 innings of work. Sarah Bailitz came on in relief. The duo limited Butler to only four hits.
With Georgetown opting out of the 2021 season, the weekend series originally on the schedule has been canceled. The Bulldogs are now off until they travel to Providence for a three-game series April 24-25.
