Butler split a Saturday doubleheader at Providence, rebounding from an opening loss to take a 9-2 win later in the afternoon.
Butler is now 16-16 on the season and 6-8 in BIG EAST play. Providence is 3-12 (2-9 BIG EAST).
Lauren Fey had two hits, scored three runs and drove in four in the second game. The two hits included her first home run of the season and the second of her Butler career.
Butler jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings and then put the game away with a four-run fifth inning.
Alyssa Garcia went 3-for-3 and
Maddie Moore also had two hits for the Bulldogs, who had a total of eight hits.
Mackenzie Griman went the distance for the Bulldogs, picking up the win by surrendering only six hits and two runs in seven innings. Griman struck out two and is now 2-2 on the season.
Tori Grifone took the loss for Providence, getting the start but only going two innings.
Providence scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, posting a 7-2 win in the first game of the twinbill. Those three runs came on a home run by Grifone, her first of the season.
Providence added two insurance runs in the bottom of the third.
Daniela Alvarez pitched the first four innings to earn the win for the Friars. She allowed two runs. Sarah Gunderson picked up the save by throwing the final three frames.
Ricketts had a solo home run for the Bulldogs, her team-best seventh of the season.
Ricketts took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (two earned) over the first two innings.
Alyssa Graves came on in the relief over the final four innings.
The teams are scheduled for a single game Sunday. That first pitch has been pushed back to 1 p.m.
