The BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship is a 54-hole tournament with competition starting each day at 8 a.m. ET. The event runs Monday through Wednesday. Live stats will be available on
GolfStat.com. The team winner will earn the BIG EAST's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Championship field. Should the individual champion not be a member of the winning team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship.
Butler has been led a pair of veterans, senior
Michael Cascino and grad student
Logan Sabins. This spring, Cascino has been in the top 10 in all three tournaments. He has a stroke average of 72.25. Sabins recorded two top-10 finishes in three tourneys. Sabins finished 11th in the 2019 Championship.
GolfStat ranks the Bulldogs as the No. 4 seed in the field, trailing Marquette, Connecticut and Seton Hall.
Cascino and Sabins will be joined in the Butler line-up by
Raymond Sullivan and
Nick Williams. Freshman
Jack Wilcox or
Stephen Kocerha will tee up in the fifth position on Monday.
The tournament, which was not played in 2020 due to COVID issues, had produced tight finishes in two of the previous three years. In 2018, Georgetown edged Marquette by three strokes for the title. In 2017, Marquette edged Seton Hall by one stroke and Georgetown by two strokes. In the 2019 tournament, however, Marquette pulled away in the final round and won by 24 strokes over runner-up DePaul with Seton Hall and Butler tying for third place, three strokes behind the Blue Demons.
The Bulldogs have moved up in the standings in recent years. They tied for sixth in 2017 and 2016 before finishing fifth place in 2018 and a tie for third in 2019.
St. John's announced that it is unable to compete in the Championship due to COVID issues within its program. The absence of the Red Storm leaves nine teams in the 2021 field.
