The Butler track and field team will divide to conquer two separate meets this weekend, heading to both the Virginia Grand Prix in Charlottesville, Va. and the Illinois State Invitational in Bloomington-Normal, Ill. for the weekend.
The Illinois State Invite will feature a unique set-up, with a women's meet on Friday, April 30 followed by the men's competition on Saturday, May 1. The Virginia Grand Prix is a single day meet on Saturday, May 1. Virginia will stream the meet on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX), available through the ESPN app or the ESPN Watch website.
Headed to Virginia
A small group of distance runners will represent the Bulldogs in Virginia. For the men,
Remi Schyns,
Clark Otte, and
Jonathan Besselink are entered in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, returning to the track after solid performances at EKU's Rick Erdmann Twilight.
Matthew Wigelsworth will compete in both the 800-meter and the premiere 1-mile run, which serves as the final event of the evening.
Angelina Ellis,
Kami Hankins and
Katherine Olsen, all competing in separate events, will headline the Grand Prix for the Butler women. Ellis will toe the line for the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Her last outing at EKU earned her BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week laurels.
Hankins will run the 5,000-meter and Olsen will join the 1,500-meter field.
At Illinois State
The Bulldog squad headed to Illinois State will primarily feature multi-athletes, sprinters, middle-distance runners and field event competitors.
For the men,
Nick Robie and
Trey Harris will run the 800-meter while
Jack Wilson and
Blake Roberts will round out the middle distance crew, competing in the 1,500-meter.
Chris Stein will run both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Travis Drumm will join him in the 200, while also running the 400-meter dash.
Jacob Uhl will also run in the 400-meter open event.
Thomas Pitkin will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at the meet.
Freshmen
Jack Elder and Zach Stanley, along with
Luke Hofrichter will compete in several events for the Bulldogs. Elder is scheduled to compete in the 100-meter, 400-meter, long jump and shot put. Stanley will join him in the shot put, while also running the 110-meter hurdles. Hofrichter will throw the shot put and javelin along with competing in the high jump.
Joey Gareis will make his outdoor debut as a Bulldog in the men's long jump, while
Brendan Watkins will compete in both horizontal jumps.
Drew Herman will compete in the men's high jump, looking for another individual title in the event this season.
For the women, Madi Provo and
Abby Fostveit are entered in the 800-meter. The Bulldogs will also have solid performers in the 1,500-meter as
Camille Hines,
Mia Beckham, Abby
Olson and
Renate Toldo will all make an appearance in the field. Hines is coming off an individual win in the distance last weekend at the Clark Wood Open.
Current record-holder
Carson Fields will be the lone Bulldog in the women's 100-meter dash. She will also headline the women's 200, and will be joined by fellow sprinters
Lily Hess,
Reagan Kelly,
Erin Haugh and
Amelia Dessauer.
Dessauer, Hess, Haugh, and Kelly will go on to compete in the 400-meter dash. They will be joined by
Jill Vogler, who has the top Bulldog time in the event at 56.60.
Fields, Haugh, Hess, and Vogler will make up the 4x400-meter relay team for Butler.
Four different Bulldogs,
Niki Ezeh,
Nina Hilt,
Karmen Koch and
Remi Beckham, will all compete in the women's 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, long jump and shot put.
McKenzie Greene will join her multis teammates in the 100-meter hurdles.
Molly Kracht will represent the Bulldogs in the javelin, coming off a personal-best in the event last weekend at Louisville.
Rounding out the field events will be
Megan Leaman and
Lucy Czirjak taking on both the horizontal jumps.
