INDIANAPOLIS – Morehead State came up with a 35-14 victory over Butler at the Sellick Bowl on Saturday afternoon. Mark Pappas led the Eagles to victory with 382 passing yards and two touchdowns.
How it Happened
Morehead State came out strong to score the first 21 points of the game. Butler forced a fumble on the opening possession, but missed a field goal for a shot at the lead early. The first points on the scoreboard would belong to the visitors as Pappas found Campbell-Clay for a 26-yard passing TD. The game moved to 14-0 in the opening stages of the second quarter with Aguero crossing the goal line from one-yard out.
MSU attacked through the air once again to make the game 21-0. Pappas hit Byrd on a 24-yard TD pass with 8:48 to play in the second. BU got picked off twice in the second frame, but would get points on the board before the half.
Nick Orlando went under center and would step up in the pocket to find
Austin Schwantz on an 11-yard TD pass. Butler's second TD of the game also included Orlando as the quarterback. He rushed in from one-yard out to close the third quarter.
Turnovers would be the story in this one as Morehead State picked off Brown for a fourth time in the fourth quarter to eliminate any chance of a comeback. Barrett made the interception at the 25-yard line and would return it 75 yards for the final score of the day.
