RV/27 Butler Hosts Creighton to Close Out Regular Season

Butler women's soccer (8-1, 5-1) will finish regular season play as they host Creighton (4-4, 4-3) on Thursday, April 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
 
The Bulldogs are currently in first place of the BIG EAST Midwest Division and have secured their spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.

  • Butler has been receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches national poll. The Bulldogs are also ranked 4th in the East Region poll.
  • Butler leads the series against Creighton, 10-1-1 and have won the last six matches.
  • The Bulldogs visited Creighton on March 18, coming away with a 4-0 win.
  • Four different Bulldogs scored in the win over the Bluejays earlier this season.

Last Time Out
Butler has not played since March 28 when they won a double-overtime game at Marquette, 1-0. The winning goal came off the foot of Katie Soderstrom in the 104th minute and to give her five goals on the season. Alli Leonard got the assist on the goal.
 
Rodriguez made six saves to maintain her fifth clean sheet this season and fourth in BIG EAST play. She now has 14 shutouts in her Butler career, which ranks third all-time in Butler history.
 
Butler's game that was scheduled against Xavier on April 3 was cancelled due to COVID-19 related issues within the Xavier program.
 
Scouting Creighton
Creighton is currently second in the Midwest Division with a 4-4 record, and 4-3 in BIG EAST play. The Bluejays are coming off of a 2-1 win against DePaul on April 4.
 
Aida Kardovic leads Creighton scoring with seven points off of three goals and one assist. Madison Radke leads the Bluejays in assists with two. Kardovic and Radki swept offensive, defensive and freshman honors in the most recent BIG EAST weekly awards.
 
Last time against Creighton, the Bulldogs won 4-0 behind goals from Aliya Diagne, Alli Leonard, Morgan Kloosterman, and Payton Black. Stephanie Rodriguez made eight saves in the shutout.
 
Butler in the National Polls
Butler is current receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll and are ranked fourth in the East Region standings. The Bulldogs are also in the top-30 list on TopDrawerSoccer.com.
 
The New BIG EAST                                                                
Women's soccer teams will play divisional schedules with six teams in the East (Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova) and five teams in the Midwest (Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier). The divisional teams will play home and home matches against each divisional opponent. Both schedules have two bye weeks built in for rescheduling purposes if necessary. The women's championship will be hosted at Providence, April 15-18.
 
Championship Outlook
The top two teams in each division will meet in the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament on Friday, April 16 in Providence, R.I. Butler (8-1-0, 5-1-0) and Georgetown (9-0-1, 7-0-1) are locked in as the No. 1 seeds from their respective divisions. The second qualifier from each division will be determined Sunday, April 11 following the final conference match-ups.
