@ButlerMSoccer Celebrates Senior Day Saturday as Creighton Visits Varsity Field

Butler will finish off the modified spring season Saturday, hosting Creighton in an 11:30 a.m. kick at Varsity Field on the Butler campus.

A live stream of the match will be available on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

The Bulldogs will recognize seven seniors in a pre-match ceremony – Justin Savona, Ethan King, Kenzith Andrew, Jack Woods, P.J. Garcia, Usman Gil Ivern and Michael Cohen. Savona has started seven matches so far this season, while King has made appearances in 10 of the team's 11 contests.

Butler enters the match with a record of 3-6-2, while Creighton stands at 6-4.

In the Midwest division of the BIG EAST standings, Butler currently sits in third with a 3-2-2 conference record. Marquette (5-1-1) and Creighton (5-2) have solidified the top two positions in the Midwest standings and will advance to the 2021 BIG EAST Tournament (along with the top two teams from the conference's East division).

BIG EAST play during the 2021 spring includes a home-and-home series with the four other Midwest division schools: DePaul, Xavier, Marquette, and Creighton.

In the all-time series between the two schools, Creighton owns a 9-3-1 advantage. Two of Butler's three wins have come in the BIG EAST Tournament (2019, 2016). All but three of the match-ups have come since Butler and Creighton both joined the BIG EAST prior to the 2013 season.

Included among that all-time series is a 4-2 Creighton win March 17 in Omaha. The host Bluejays used three second-half goals to pull away. Butler's goals came from Tommy Visser and DJ Hooks. For Hooks, it was his first collegiate goal.

Butler junior keeper Gabriel Gjergji was selected as the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. It was the second BIG EAST weekly honor of the season for Gjergji and the third of his Butler career.

Gjergji earned the shutout victory with three saves as the Bulldogs defeated Xavier 1-0 in overtime on Saturday in the Bulldogs' only action of the week. Gjergji's defense held the Musketeers to seven total shots. Gjergji kept his net clean through almost 100 minutes before Wilmer Cabrera, Jr. ended the match with a golden goal.

Gjergji's goals against average for the season is 1.02. He has five shutouts, including three in BIG EAST play. Butler has allowed only five goals in seven BIG EAST matches; Creighton scored four of those five goals.

Cabrera, Jr. leads the Bulldogs with four goals and 10 points, as both marks are sixth in the BIG EAST rankings. He had three goals (and one assist) in a 5-0 win over DePaul March 3. He earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week accolades with the performance. It marked the first three-goal game for a Bulldog since Lewis Suddick netted a trio against IUPUI on Aug. 30, 2016.

Hemi Nasser and Visser each have two goals and six points on the season. Cabrera Jr. also leads the BIG EAST with 34 shots on the season. Nasser is fourth with 28.

Butler was predicted to win the BIG EAST Midwest Division, which was voted on by the league's head coaches earlier this year. The Bulldogs had two players named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in sophomore Cabrera Jr. and senior defender Rhys Myers. Spring 2021 All-BIG EAST teams will be announced following Saturday's regular season finale.

Cabrera Jr. was the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2019, after scoring eight goals and starting in every game. Jack Haywood was All-BIG EAST third-team in 2019 after tying for conference high in assists.
