Anja Savich led RV/27 Butler to a 2-1 win against Creighton to close out the regular season on Thursday, April 8 at the Sellick Bowl.
The Bulldogs are the BIG EAST Midwest Division Champions for the 2020-21 season, going 9-1 on the year and 6-1 in BIG EAST play. Butler had clinched the title prior to Thursday's win.
How It Happened
Coming off a two-win week, the Bluejays came out on the attack early at the Sellick Bowl, firing six shots in the first period.
After ten minutes of defense,
Anja Savich took advantage of an opportunity off a cross from the right side of the box. Savich had two quick looks at the net that were blocked, but she stopped the Bluejays clear attempt and, off the bounce, sent a rocket into the bottom right corner of the goal.
Butler would stay up 1-0 until midway through the second half. A turnover in the Bulldogs box led to a goal by Ansley Atkinson, tying the match at 1-1.
The Bulldogs would get a chance to answer in the 80
th minute.
Katie Soderstrom dribbled up the left side of the field and made a move to cut back into the box, ditching the ball to Savich in front of the left post. Savich read the goalie's shift and tucked a shot into the near corner of the goal.
Butler doubled-down on defense to hold on to the 2-1 win.
