Berkeley, Calif. – Butler won its second match of the Cal Tournament with a sweep over Nevada. The Bulldogs (4-4) took a tight first set before cruising to victory in the final two sets over the Wolf Pack (1-7).
Set 1: Butler 25-23
The Bulldogs got out to an early 7-3 lead thanks to kills from four different players. The teams would go back-and-forth from there until a Nevada 4-0 run put the Wolf Pack ahead at 21-20. However, Butler would rally back to take the set with the help of kills from
Melody Davidson and
Brittany Robinson. Davidson and
Mariah Grunze led the Bulldog offense in the first set with four kills each.
Set 2: Butler 25-19
Another two kills apiece for Davidson and Grunze got Butler out to a strong 9-4 start, and the Bulldogs would not look back from there. Nevada did get to within two though late in the set at 21-19, but the Bulldogs responded with a 4-0 run and clinched the set on a
Grace Boggess ace. Davidson (five kills), Grunze (four kills) and Boggess (two aces, two kills) led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs.
Set 3: Butler 25-18
The Wolf Pack got out an early 8-5 lead, but the Bulldogs took 8-of-9 points to build a 13-9 lead. Nevada would rally to get within one at 18-17, but back-to-back aces from Boggess and then a kill by
Brittany Robinson helped put the match away for Butler. Three kills from Robinson and another two kills, two aces set from Boggess led the way for the Bulldogs.
Stat of the Match:
Butler out-blocked Nevada 13-4.

-Davidson finished with 15 points on 11 kills and eight block assists.
-Boggess filled up the stat sheet with five kills, five digs, four aces and four total blocks.
