@ButlerUWSoccer Propelled by Soderstrom Hat Trick in 5-0 Win Over Western Michigan

INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's soccer team (7-1-0) won its seventh straight match Thursday evening, producing a 5-0 shutout over visiting Western Michigan (2-5-0).
 
Key Moments
  • 17' | Alli Leonard sent a ball straight up the middle for Katie Soderstrom who ran onto it, made a perfect strike, and gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
  • 21' | Morgan Kloosterman sent a ball forward to Leonard who then found Soderstrom at the top of the box. Soderstrom tapped the ball past the keeper and then tapped it again into the net. The lead was doubled, at 2-0.
  • 23' | Just two minutes later, Kloosterman found Soderstrom up the right side. She then crossed the ball to Abigail Isger who one-touched it past the Broncos' keeper. Butler was now in control, 3-0.
  • HALF
  • 58' | Soderstrom collected a ball at the top of the box, and after a deflection off of a defender, got the ball back and immediately shot. The resulting goal gave her a hat trick and put Butler up, 4-0.
  • 66' | A cross that caromed off the crossbar landed in front of the Western Michigan goal. Anastasia Savich pushed the ball back toward the goal with her heel, and Gabby Smith, who was facing away from the goal as well, used her heel to knock the ball over the goal line. Butler took a 5-0 commanding lead.

  • Katie Soderstrom knotched her second career hat trick and the fourth multi-goal match of her career. She now has eight goals this season and 24 for her career, which ties her for eighth on Butler's career list. Her assist was her second of the season and 18th of her career.
  • Soderstrom is the second Bulldog in program history to score seven points in one match. Four other Bulldogs have scored eight points in one match, and they lead the pack.
  • Soderstrom now leads the Bulldogs with 18 points. She has scored in five of Butler's eight matches this season.
  • Abigail Isger scored her fifth goal of the season, which was the sixth of her career.
  • Gabby Smith's goal was her third of the season and the fourth of her career.
  • Alli Leonard was credited with two assists, her fourth and fifth of the season, giving her a career total of eight. This is the second time she has made two assists in a single match.
  • Morgan Kloosterman knotched two assists, her first of the season and the third and fourth of her career. This was the first time she has produced multiple assists in a match.
  • Anastasia Savich's assist was her second in as many matches and the 11th of her career
  • Freshman Emma Martin improved to 7-0-0 on the season and was credited with her third shutout. She made one save.
     
  • The five goals scored by the Bulldogs are the most since a 9-2 win over Marian on February 17, 2021.
  • The Bulldogs produced 24 shots, and 10 were on goal. The Butler defense held the Broncos to five shots, one on goal.
  • Alli Leonard led Butler with seven shots. Soderstrom tallied 6, while Amanda Kowalski added three.
