Second Quarter Allows @ButlerUFootball to Secure a Road Win at Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. – Butler outscored Taylor 35-7 in the second quarter on Saturday night at Turner Stadium to erase an early three-point deficit and move ahead to win by the final score of 77-24. A new single-game modern scoring record was set in the victory with Butler scoring a touchdown on 11 of their 16 possessions.

How It Happened
The start of the game did not go well for the Bulldogs. The Trojans took their opening drive down the field for a touchdown and would intercept a Butler pass minutes later to set up a second score, giving the home team a quick 14-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs didn't flinch and would quickly knot the score at 14-14. Nick Orlando entered the game at quarterback and would find Austin Schwantz deep down the middle of the field for a 43-yard TD pass. Roughly three minutes later, Bret Bushka would find Yogi Flager near the Taylor sideline for a catch and run that covered 66-yards. The final points of the opening quarter would belong to the home team however as Zane Shilts trotted onto the field to hit a 42-yard field goal.

Butler's defense would come alive in the second quarter to set up great field position for the offense. The 'Dawgs forced a Taylor punt on their first drive of the second quarter and four-straight turnovers would follow, helping BU take a commanding lead.

Kavon Samuels gave Butler their first lead of the game with a 22-yard TD run with 12:19 left in the first half. Daniel Obwaya would impact the game soon after with a scoop and score touchdown on a fumble recovery. Orlando and Samuels would both score rushing TD's in the second quarter and the scoreboard would read 49-17 after a five-yard TD pass from Bushka to Johnny O'Shea.

The only points in the second half would belong to Butler. Jared Suchevits would get his feet down in the back of the end zone from six-yards out for the first score and Orlando would win a foot race past multiple Taylor defenders to give BU a 63-24 lead with 5:10 to play in the third.

14 more points were scored for BU in the fourth. Brody Reder took his lone carry seven yards to the end zone and Kellen Madison would pick up a fumble and return it 11 yards to the end zone for his first collegiate touchdown.
