@ButlerVB falls to Central Michigan

Box Score Mount Pleasant, Mich. - The Butler women's volleyball team lost 3-1 to host Central Michigan in the second match of the Chippewa Invitational for the Bulldogs. Butler (2-3) took the first set before the Chippewas (3-2) won the final three. The Bulldogs split the day's two matches after winning against Youngstown State earlier.

Set 1: Butler 25-23
The Bulldogs took a 9-6 lead thanks to two kills each from Brittany Robinson and Grace Boggess. The set would be back-and-forth until a couple of Chippewa errors followed by a Mariah Grunze ace would put Butler up 20-16. Central Michigan would cut the deficit back to 24-23 before Melody Davidson clinched the set for the Bulldogs with a kill.

Set 2: Central Michigan 25-23
Central Michigan got out to an early 11-6 lead before the Bulldogs closed to within one with a 4-0 run. Another 4-0 spurt later in the set gave Butler a 17-16 lead, but the Chippewas responded with five straight points to go up 23-20 and would go on from there to win the set.

Set 3: Central Michigan 25-19
The Chippewas started fast for an 11-4 lead and would never lead by less than five the rest of the set. Boggess, Davidson, Robinson and Amina Shackelford all had multiple kills for Butler in the third set.

Set 4: Central Michigan 25-19
Butler led 7-6 early with two kills from Robinson and one each from Davidson and Madison Friebel. The Chippewas soon got out to a 15-11 lead and would lead by at least three points the rest of the way, with Davidson and Robinson putting up strong attacking efforts for the Bulldogs.

Stat of the Match:
The Bulldogs posted a season-high nine total blocks, including five from Davidson.
 
Inside the Box Score:
-Robinson tallied 15 kills, seven digs and a block assist in her second game of the season.
-Friebel had 42 assists and eight digs.
-Davidson finished with 12 kills, five blocks and two assists.
-Boggess (eight kills, four blocks) and Shackelford (seven kills, three blocks) had solid nights at the net.

Up Next:
Butler will face North Dakota at noon on Saturday for the final game of the Chippewa Invitational for the Bulldogs.
