No. 25 UConn Tops @ButlerMBB Thursday Night in Indianapolis

No. 25 UConn pulled away over the final few minutes to post a 75-56 win over Butler Thursday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

UConn's Tyrese Martin scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half as the Huskies were able to erase a four-point Butler halftime advantage.

An 8-0 run by UConn turned the visitors' 57-52 lead with 4:18 to play into a 65-52 advantage. The Huskies then pulled away for the final margin, which was the largest of the game.

Chuck Harris came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points for the Bulldogs. Aaron Thompson had 10 points and five assists. Thompson left the game for a few minutes in the second half after suffering a shoulder injury; he returned to the game after being evaluated by Butler's medical staff.

After shooting only 29 percent in the first half, UConn shot 18-of-27 over the second 20 minutes to post 51 points. Martin had 10 of those second-half field goals. UConn shot 45 percent for the game.

Adama Sanogo added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Huskies, who also got 11 points and 10 boards from Isaiah Whaley.

Butler shot 38 percent from the field.

With the result, UConn improved to 13-4 on the season and 4-2 in BIG EAST play. Butler is now 9-9 (2-5).

The game was the second of back-to-back contests between the two teams, who also played Tuesday night in Hartford (a 76-59 UConn victory). The Tuesday game was originally scheduled for New Year's Day, but was rescheduled due to COVID issues within the UConn program at the time.

The Bulldogs head to Providence for a Sunday tip against the No. 21 Friars. That will be Butler's sixth Top 25 opponent over a seven-game stretch.
