INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler volleyball team won their third-straight BIG EAST contest on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over visiting Seton Hall (25-17, 16-25, 25-16, 25-19). The Bulldogs are now 10-9 overall with a 4-3 mark against conference foes. They will move past the Pirates in the conference standings with Seton Hall hanging onto a 4-4 BIG EAST record.
STAT OF THE MATCH: The Bulldogs hit over .200 in each set win tonight and limited the Pirates to an attack percentage under .100.
SET 1: Butler 25-17
The Bulldogs got off to a slow start, but climbed back into the action to tie the contest at 14-14. The Pirates committed four service errors early to keep Butler close and a BU ace from
Brooklyne Darby moments later would put the home team in front 20-16. BU broke a 16-16 tie to grab control of the opener with a 5-0 scoring run.
Mariah Grunze got BU to set point with her fourth kill of the set and a BU block would signal the end of set one at 25-17.
SET 2: Seton Hall 25-21
Butler opened up a small lead over SHU, but Jenna Walsh would use her serve to help the Pirates score four-straight tying the action at 11-11. Asli Subasili was next in line for the Pirates and her serve put the visitors in front 16-12 forcing a BU timeout. Another 4-0 SHU scoring run moved the scoreboard to 20-13 and the two teams would head into the break tied at 1-1.
SET 3: Butler 25-16
Butler broke an 8-8 tie to grab a 14-10 advantage.
Amina Shackelford delivered back-to-back kills for the 'Dawgs to cushion the BU lead during that stretch. Moments later, the standout sophomore would be credited with a solo block to give the Bulldogs a 17-12 lead and force Seton Hall into a timeout. Shackelford had four kills in the third taking her match total to nine.
SET 4: Butler 25-19
Cora Taylor broke a 10-10 tie with an ace and the Bulldogs would ride that momentum into a 14-11 lead. Shackelford once again put together a pair of kills and
Brooklyne Darby would get an ace to keep BU on top. Five-straight Bulldog points got Butler to set point and Shackleford would bring the win home with her 14th kill of the night.
